The Founders of Obsidian Bookshop

Billy, Bowen and Archer saw an opportunity when Sydney’s only exclusively queer bookshop closed its doors in December of 2025 after 40 years of operating. They created Obsidian Bookshop from nothing but a yearning for exclusively queer spaces in Sydney and a few thousand dollars of debt. They champion self published authors and small press publications alongside some mainstream titles. Obsidian Bookshop also makes handmade bookish items, keeping the art of slow making alive. If you’d like to know more about how Obsidian Bookshop was started check out this article published by Star Observer when the bookshop had just opened in March 2026.

Of course we couldn’t forget the most important team members! Let’s be honest these kitties are the heart and soul of Obsidian Bookshop. They’re always posing the haus down for our instagram and constantly ‘helping’ us with inventory (and yes, by helping we mean constantly causing chaos!)
