Violets have been linked to sapphic love for centuries, dating back to the poetry of Sappho of Lesbos in the 6th century. Over time, the flower became a subtle symbol used by lesbians and queer women. It is also widely recognised in modern day as a symbol for bisexual and pansexual identities.
